Tech for Good is now Develop Impact...- Issue 100!

Happy Friday!

Wow, we’ve reached issue #100 for the Tech for Good newsletter! When I started this newsletter a few years ago, I never imagined that we’d reach this milestone! Today I want to share with you our new branding and why we are changing the name of this newsletter (also the what’s interesting post is also included).

Our new logo…

As my team at Glean Asia is getting ready to launch our new platform that focuses on #tech4good project research, digital tool directory, and funding opportunities we wanted to look at changing the Tech for Good name to something that would better reflect what we are building. There are so many great websites and programs named ‘Tech for Good’ that we felt it was important to for us to stand out. Develop Impact is, what I believe, to be a wonderful reflection of where we are aiming our work. We want to help bridge the gap between people that want to work on socially responsible tech and those working on large-scale international development programs. International development is changing, tech is becoming a cross-cutting theme, and we want to provide resources for those looking to do their best digital work.

Over the next month, we are going to be building up to the launch of our Develop Impact platform, something we’ve been testing internally for months, but are just about ready to share with you all. I’m so excited to see how this platform can help your #tech4good work.

Have a great weekend!

Jesse

It is no longer enough just to be online: it’s meaningful connectivity that transforms lives

Christinah Ngoy is a facilitator at Timbuktu in the Valley, a skills development space for children living in some of Johannesburg’s most impoverished inner-city neighborhoods. When she first joined the organization a few years ago, she supported the children who came for after-school care, helping them complete their homework and guiding them as they used the laptops donated to the center for access to online educational support and entertainment.

But when the pandemic hit, her role shifted…

Digital inclusion and equity changes what’s possible

While the pandemic has made clear the critical role of technology, it has also revealed major gaps in data accessibility, underrepresentation within tech organizations, and bias within technology.

3 Key Challenges to Data Cleaning in Digital Development Programs

In the last decade, incredible improvements have been made on the data collection side that help the processing pipeline. However, various datasets are managed and maintained by several organizations in disconnected systems.
